Urgent appeal for residents to help save Sha Tin banyan tree uprooted during Typhoon Manghkut

A veteran tree expert made an urgent appeal to residents living in Sha Tin to work together to save an umbrella-shaped Chinese banyan that collapsed in Penfold Park, in spite of the Jockey Club s earlier decision to remove the popular tree. Fondly remembered by many who have visited the park next to the Sha Tin Racecourse, the tree was found collapsed on Sunday after Typhoon Manghkut swept through Hong Kong.
